We are off to a stellar beginning in 4th grade this year! We started off the year practicing our procedures, learning more about one another, and learning about life in 4th grade.
This coming month in math we will be working through chapter 1, which focuses on place value. We will move on to chapter 2, which is adding and subtracting whole numbers. Make sure to be practicing those multiplication and division facts at home!
Our first unit for science is weather. We will be working on identifying weather patterns, reading weather maps, creating and using weather tools, identifying clouds, and talking about severe weather. Watching the weather together in the evenings is a wonderful way for your student to connect their learning with the world around them!
In reading we are working on building reading stamina and we are continuing to test guided reading levels. We will begin reading the novel Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume and focus on character traits.
In social studies we are wrapping up a short unit on map skills and where we are in the world. We will begin studying the Land Bridge Theory and Early Americans. We are looking forward to a wonderful September with our hard working 4th graders!
